Mindy Dickman
Hi, my name is Mindy Dickman. For almost 10 years, I wrote the wonderful book, Life in the Everglades: A Young Naturalist’s Manual and Field Guide, my love letter to the natural world. I decided to write Life in the Everglades when three meaningful coincidences happened simultaneously. First, I had just finished reading Omnivore’s Dilemma and felt a strong need to help animals in some way. At the same time, I was taking a teacher recertification class about the Everglades and created a book for children as my class project. Then while buying kids nature books for our family’s RV trip to Yosemite National Park, I thought I would see if there were similar books about Everglades National Park’s plants and animals. In my quest, I quickly realized the book I wanted didn’t exist, and so, eureka, I decided to write the book myself.
I have degrees in Chemistry Education and Reading and Learning Disabilities and taught five years of both science and reading. I love being in nature, reading, dancing, and spending time with my family and friends.
Book talks are tailored for any age group and focus on the native habitats, wildlife, and conservation solutions related to the Greater Everglades Ecosystem. The book talk fee of $750 is reduced to $200 with the presale of 20 books.
