“This book, written by Mindy Dickman, was so helpful as a resource for a unit that we did in our afterschool writing club. The book is extremely student (and teacher) friendly; the organizational structure provides very easy access to the specific information you are looking for on different flora and fauna. The brief but very informative paragraphs that accompany each full color image are chock full of facts and interesting information. Each also contains a “Think” probe or a “Fun Fact”, each of which could be researched further and would encourage students to go down different rabbit holes on related information. The Resources page in the back guides students to other texts written about the Everglades and the Glossary contains those content specific terms that kids might need defined as they are reading. I can’t say enough great things about this book- if you are doing a unit on the Everglades it is a must have!”
